Earth, Wind & Fire Founder Maurice White Dead At 74

Maurice White, the founder of the Earth, Wind & Fire, died late Wednesday, his brother confirmed Thursday. White was 74.

"While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives," Verdine White posted on the group's Facebook page.

White, who was born in Memphis, Tennessee, started his music career in Chicago where he worked as a drummer for Chess Recording Company for five years.

He founded the R&B band in Chicago the late 1960s and the group moved to Los Angeles in 1970.
