Johnny Depp was in full Captain Jack Sparrow mode when he surprised the young patients at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane, Australia Tuesday.

Depp, 52, took a day away from filming another sequel to his blockbuster pirate film franchise to brighten the lives of the children who are battling life-threatening illnesses. Production of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" was on hold because of an off-set hand injury suffered by the star.

"He came on the condition that he wasn't pushed along and crowded by adults and he could spend as much time as he wanted with the kids," a hospital staff told an Australia TV station.

No press other than a children's hospital show were invited to the visit, but photos and video soon hit Twitter.
